University of the Virgin Islands

The University of the Virgin Islands has two main campuses. One campus is in St. Croix/Kingshill and the other is in St. Thomas. The first campus to open was the one in St. Thomas in July of 1963. It is situated across 175 acres. Then in 1964 the St. Croix campus opened on 130 donated acres.

St. Croix is 22.7 miles long and only 8 miles wide at its widest point. The beaches are absolutely breath taking. There are always festivals of music, arts, crafts and even food. The Crucian Christmas Festival is one festival that many locals look forward to.

St. Thomas is 32 square miles and is full of things to do and experience. It is surrounded by beautiful beaches, and has a brilliant night life. St. Thomas has a world wide known golf course, a sky ride that takes vistors 700 feet above the city, and many other activities to keep a college student busy.

The University of the Virgin Islands is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. University of the Virgin Islands receives Reaffirmation of Accreditation Through 2017. The university is also a member of The American Association of State Colleges and Universities; Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities. UVI is also ranked 3755 among all the universities and colleges worldwide.

The university has 5 different schools within its self. The first is the School of Business. The School of Business offers an AA degree in accounting, business management, computer information systems and hotel and restaurant management. It also offers several different BA degrees. These degrees are in accounting and business administration as well as all the continuation of the AA degree studies. The School of Business also offers a MBA, which is a Master of Business Administration degree.

There is also a School of Education, which offers an AA degree in inclusive early childhood education with the concentration being in mathematics, science, social studies and English. The BA studies include elementary education and inclusive early childhood education. The School of Education also offers a MA, which is a Master of Arts in Education degree. The degrees are in educational administration and supervision, teaching, and guidance counseling.

There is also a College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, which offers an AA degree in police science and administration. The BA program offers degrees in English, music education, communication, humanities, social sciences, psychology, social work, theater, and speech communication. There is also a MPA, which is a Master of Public Administration. The final degree offered in this school is a MAP, which is a Master of Arts in Psychology.

The College of Science and Mathematics offers a AAS degree in process technology, a AS in computer science and physics, a BA in biology, chemistry, marine biology, computer science, and mathematics. There is also a Masters degree offered for secondary teachers, and marine and environmental science.

The final school is the School of Nursing. The school offers an AS as well as a BS in Nursing. There is also a RN to BS in nursing program.
The Sports and Fitness Center is on the St. Thomas campus. Also on the St. Thomas campus are the tennis courts, golf courses, volleyball courts, basketball,soccer fields and baseball fields. Brewers Bay Beach is used for swimming and water sports.

The St. Croix campus has outdoor sports arenas such as a basketball court, volleyball court, and tennis courts. The students have the opportunity to participate in basketball, baseball, track and field, softball, tennis, volleyball, swimming, cross country, and soccer. There is also the Bucs Fitness Club which was opened in 2007.

There is financial aid available. The tuition is $4,366 per year for full time residents and $11,856 per year for full time non-residents. The part time rate for residents is $125 per credit and for part time non-resident it is $325 per credit.
